The impact of SMA on children’s mobility varies greatly and is likely to change with age. This section looks at what equipment options are potentially available that can help your child get around more safely and independently at home, when you go out and when they're with their friends at nursery and school. It’s important that whatever equipment they have, it's right for them and their day-to-day routines and environments. If your child doesn’t already have an occupational therapist (OT) or physio and you're concerned about their mobility, ask your GP or neuromuscular consultant for a referral for an assessment.

Any equipment needs to be adjusted professionally as your child grows and must be regularly maintained.
