Paid Work & Parenting

Many parents find that one or both of them adjust their paid work commitments so that they can manage their caring responsibilities – not only for their child with SMA but also for their other children or perhaps their ageing parents or other relatives. If you’re a working parent, you may have a legal right to take time off in certain circumstances. You may also be able to request a change to your working week to help you juggle your work and caring responsibilities.

For some, once their child is at school there may be a window of opportunity to pick up some hours again, if wanted.

This section draws on information from the charity Contact for Families With Disabled Children and lets you know about your rights and where to look for more information.
