Each Local Authority (LA) has their own policy on the provision of school transport, including rules on DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks for drivers and any escorts who accompany children on school transport.
If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) decisions about transport can be made during the EHCP process. Although you can apply later, it's good to discuss transport at the EHCP planning meeting, as you can request that your LA representative be there to support your case.
If the school you have chosen is further away than the nearest available place that meets your child’s needs the local authority isn’t obliged to provide transport to the school further away and you can be asked to pay all or part of the transport costs. You’ll need to speak to your LA for more information.
